1. What is tencel fabric?
Tencel fabric, also known as Lyocell, is a type of fabric woven from Tencel fibers exclusively produced by Lenzing AG. The characteristic feature of this fabric is that it is made from cellulose-rich beechwood pulp. Since the 1970s, Tencel fabric has become popular and widely used.
The production process of Tencel fabric begins with debarking and preprocessing the beechwood, grinding it into pulp. The wood pulp is then spun into fibers. What’s unique is that Tencel fibers are produced from natural raw materials and processed using Nano technology, creating a completely natural, safe, and skin-friendly Tencel fabric.

2. How is tencel fabric produced?
- Step 1: Raw material preparation – Beechwood is milled and extracted to obtain cellulose.
- Step 2: Preparing for the fiber spinning process – Cellulose is dissolved in water and the organic solvent NMMO to form a viscous solution, preparing it for the fiber spinning process.
- Step 3: Fiber formation – The cellulose solution is extruded through a part called a spinneret, creating continuous long fibers. These fibers then pass through a coagulation bath and a cleaning process to remove excess chemicals on the fiber surface.
- Step 4: Yarn drawing – fibers are either cut into stape fiber or filament, stape fiber can be blended with other fibers like cotton for further yarn spinning processes.
- Step 5, Fabric: After the fibers are spun, they are weaving (knit/woven) into fabric. It can be woven using either the traditional loom or the knitting technique.
